Saturday Night on Basin Street Louis Jazz Cafe Vol.010 Step inside a neighborhood dance hall in late-1920s New Orleans. The doors are open, the cornet is warming up, and Saturday night is just beginning. One by one, people arrive beneath the lights. A clarinet calls someone in from the street, wooden chairs fill along the walls, and before long the old dance floor comes alive. Cornet, clarinet, trombone, tenor banjo, tuba and upright piano carry the room through a full Saturday night of early New Orleans jazz and Dixieland. As midnight approaches, coats come back on and chairs begin to empty. But nobody is quite ready to leave. The band gives them one more tune, one final dance, and eventually the room becomes quiet again. By the end, only an empty wooden floor and the last few notes remain.
